HOME – Near and Far

Upcoming exhibition presented at Gallery North February 25th – April 3rd, 2021.

The Latino Arts Council of Long Island and Gallery North are collaborating once again to exhibit interpretations of what HOME means to us. Is it simply lodging and location, or does the word conjure family and friends? Maybe it’s the longing for a place left behind… The pandemic has confined some and separated others from our homes. Has the pandemic made us more appreciative, or more apprehensive and restless when considering a place called “home”?

We are pleased to be representing all Long Island artists with particular interest in artists from Latinx communities. By comparing perspectives, we hope to bridge communities with our mutual concerns, not only in Long Island and our home state of New York, but across national and international borders.

Virtual Reception, Thursday, March 4th, 6-8pm (link to be announced)

Art Talk on Saturday, March 13th, 5-7 pm

Gallery North is located at 90 N. Country Road, Setauket, NY 11733

Past events - Out of the Pandemic

Gallery North hosted the launching of a free, safe, nightly outdoor art experience entitled Out of the Pandemic. Organized in collaboration with contemporary artist, Carlos Morales, and the Latino Arts Council of Long Island, the series featured art and testimonials dealing with the Latino experience during the pandemic. Viewers were immersed in imagery and audio as they strolled the grounds on Gallery North’s campus among slide and video art projected onto buildings. These nightly viewings were held on the evenings of Friday Sept. 25th, Saturday Sept. 26th and included a poetry reading by celebrated poets from across Long Island on Friday Oct. 2nd. Out of the Pandemic will travel to other venues as part of the Latino Arts Council’s mission to foster opportunities in which Latino people are represented in public displays as a means to solidify a sense of belonging and identity and to make a contribution to the betterment of our community.
